We on behalf of Assam Film Society, greet you through this website. We take this opportunity to inform you that Assam Film Society was formed with a view to espousing the cause of good cinema and a strong healthy cine movement throughout the North East Region of India. We the Assam Film Society are a well-known, non profit film society and a sociocultural organisation registered under Society Registration Act-186O, Govt of India (Amended). As a film society, we have been striving relentlessly to promote a wholesome film culture in an ambience unpropitious for such desirable practices. We feel more than elated to declare that we, as a film society, are affiliated to NFAI (National Film Archive Of India) and FFSI (Federation of Film Societies Of India). As such they always stand by our endeavour and provide us with valuable counseling and resources as and when we approach them. We, as a film Society, are only a few years old, but we are still novice only in age and definitely not in achievements. Now we are a big society comprising well-known cultural activists, filmmakers, journalists, film enthusiasts, educationists, social workers and students. We can boast of being the only film society in the entire Upper Assam to have a number of affiliated Cine Clubs in various schools and colleges and hosting quite a few short film festivals with them even in certain very remote and socioeconomically backward areas. We can also boast of being the only film society in Upper Assam to host International Film Festivals. Last year, we organised an International Film Festival centrally in Jorhat in collaboration with Guwahati Cine Club, the oldest and the most reputed film society in Assam and elicited not only tremendous public responses but also unprecedented media coverage. In addition to all that, we have a publication wing which is intended to bring out at least two books a year on films including an annual film journal. Moreover we are keen on hosting short Film Appreciation Courses in line with that of FTII and NFAI, Pune to inculcate a creative, productive attitude of film appreciation in the student community. We have already obtained necessary permission for it and contacted a few renowned resource persons in the field. They have also kindly consented to cooperate with us.
We feel proud to have hosted and organized more than six International Film Festival, several Film Appreciation Courses (FAC) and campus film festivals, seminar, screening of award winning regional and continental film at various educational institutes in and around Jorhat.
